The Great Passion Play
The Great Passion Play trail network sits on land that is part religious attraction and now part mountain biking paradise. The 66-foot-tall Christ of the Ozarks statue looks over downtown Eureka Springs with outstretched arms and nearby live actors and animals perform The Great Passion Play in an outdoor amphitheater.
Meanwhile, riders race down trails with names like Deliverance, Rapture and Atonement that weave their way up and down the surrounding hillsides. It might seem like an unlikely place for mountain biking, but the two coexist in perfect harmony. The trail network is welcoming to all levels of riders. The beginner cross-country style loop called Genesis was designed with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association in mind to provide a race venue for Arkansas’s middle, junior and high school mountain biking teams. You’ll also find intermediate trails with plenty of flowing rollers and sweeping berms. On the far end of the spectrum, there are several gravity-driven trails with chunky rock gardens, challenging natural features, and steep descents.
The Great Passion Play also includes the biggest jump line in the region with a table-top jump that measures nearly 40 feet in length. Whether you visit for a leisurely two-wheeled jaunt or a ride that will push your limits, don’t forget to pose for a photo with the Christ of the Ozarks statue on the trail that runs right underneath it.
