The Bentonville Public Library hosted a children’s bike race on October 23, 2021. This race featured riders ranging from two to 11 years old with three categories for different ages: balance bikes, pedal, and AWD / para-cycling. Just like a real cycling race, each rider received a numbered bike plate with a timing chip, and the fastest contestants won a medal. There’s no better feeling than getting your picture taken on the OZ KidsTM podium! Many local bike shops and businesses like Strider Bikes, Buddy Pegs, 37 North, Cocoon Yoga, Flintco, and The Ledger showed their support.
Along with the different bike races, the Fall Fest was filled with crafts, music, toys, and reading nooks where stories were told by volunteers at the Bentonville Public Library. Free books were provided (one per child) by KPMG! The Northwest Arkansas Community College Bike Techs hosted a Fix-a-Flat competition between the participating bike shops. The Bike Techs also allowed kids to tinker with different bike parts and learn the skills of maintaining quality bikes! The Handshake Saints played live music for all attendees to enjoy. For those who did not own a personal bike, Pedal It Forward provided bikes that the kids got to keep after the event!
This amazing event would not have been possible without the Ozark Outdoor Foundation, Bentonville Library Foundation, Arvest Bank, Walmart Museum, KPMG, and dozens of other amazing sponsors. The OZ community is passionate about young cyclists learning how to ride and being excited while doing so.
